Alaska Cruises Offer Elegance and Adventure

from:

One of the most popular itineraries for cruise vacations today is the Alaska cruise. While it may not be the tropical paradise of white sandy beaches and plenty of sunshine, Alaska has a beauty and enjoyment all of its own. You can gaze upon majestic glaciers, delight in a wide variety of wildlife and explore native villages – all this and your room and board remain the same throughout! And what a room and board you will have. No matter which cruise line you end up choosing for your Alaska cruise, you can rest assured that you will enjoy fine dining, luxurious amenities and five-star service for the duration of your cruise vacation. But before you call your travel agent to book that vacation at sea, there are a few factors that you want to consider.

When to Take an Alaska Cruise

Taking Alaska cruises is a bit different than sailing to other destinations, because your window of opportunity is a bit more limited. Alaska cruises generally take place between the months of May to September. While July and August tend to be the most popular times to sail, May is the best time to view the wildflowers in bloom and September will give you a glorious glimpse at the fall foliage. You will get some beautiful scenery to enjoy during these months, but the weather patterns can be more unpredictable at these times. July and August will give you the best chance at the best weather to enjoy all of the outdoor activities available as well as time on deck when you are aboard your ship.

What to See in Alaska

The favorite tourist attraction in Alaska is probably Denali National Park. This is why most of the cruise lines will offer plenty of options in land excursion to Denali that might include a train ride, lodge stays, and treks for wildlife viewing. Other fun activities to look for on your Alaska cruise might be opportunities to see the glaciers close up, fishing for king salmon, exploring some of the native villages and more tourist-centered towns, and educational talks and excursions to learn about the environment and wildlife of Alaska. One thing is for sure – you will never run out of fun and interesting things to do on your Alaska cruise. And at night you will enjoy fine dining and plenty of entertainment that make cruises one of the most popular vacations of choice today.

If you are considering a cruise for your next vacation, why not book one of the many Alaska cruises available. For a summer expedition full of fun, adventure and elegance, an Alaska cruise cannot be beat.

More vacation-from-hell stories from readers

A sick world after all Judy Ostrom, Overland Park: Our bad vacation was last summer. We planned a week at Universal Studios with a side trip to Disney’s Magic Kingdom. We arrived on Sunday, and things were great. Then on Monday our 14-year-old daughter started feeling bad, with chills, cough and fever, and we figured we’d tag team our two kids. I’d stay with our daughter at the hotel; my husband ...
